Tina Shows
the Way!
Our story—the shortest
QBQ! QuickNote ever!—comes from Helene in San Francisco:
Dear John:
I have been getting your QuickNotes
for over four years and forwarding them to my coworkers and
friends. And now I am so excited because I personally
experienced a QBQ! moment and couldn't wait to tell
you all about it!
Last Saturday morning
my friend and I, leaving for a short get-away together,
drove to the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) train system station
at 6am near the San Francisco airport. I knew that BART parking
was free on weekends and this would save us some money. I thought
I was so smart! We waited for the train to come and take us
over to the airport for our flight out of town.
After several minutes
I went to verify the schedule and saw, to my dismay, that the
trains did not run that early on weekends—only
during the week! So we left the train platform and rushed up
the stairs to confirm the bad news with the station agent, a
gal named Tina.
Tina listened to our
dilemma and proceeded to shock us: She closed the station
booth and drove us to the airport herself! This saved us time
and frustration, not to mention cab fare.
On the way, Tina shared
that she's recovering from cancer and feels that doing things
like this is one way she can make a difference in the world.
We were quiet—and greatly appreciative. I knew right then
that I'd experienced a QBQ! moment. Tina, going above and beyond
anything in her "job description," became our vacation
angel by practicing QBQ! service and personal accountability.
Thank you for reading my email as I know
you'll appreciate the impact Tina is making on others.

Yep, good stuff, Helene. Of course, some
will ask, "But wasn't Tina irresponsible by leaving her
post!?" My response to that is this:
I'm not going to have that discussion as
it would distract me from not only appreciating Tina, but also
trying to be more like Tina! Less selfish, more selfless. Thanks
to Tina for showing me the way.
